When it comes to makeup; most of us know what suits us, what we like and what works. Trending makeup can feel too adventurous sometimes. However, a brand new season is the ideal time to experiment a little, to mix up your look and to try something new. So many people get stuck in a makeup rut. This season’s hottest makeup looks are exquisite and offer us all the perfect chance to dabble a little.

Dark lip colours

This is a beautiful look that we can thank Louis Vuitton and Dior for. Deep purple berry shades that are almost black look deliciously sophisticated and are an ideal alternative to classic red tones for a glamorous evening look. This may not be something you’ll want to wear to the office or a first date, but for headturning elegance it is a must. This look requires precision. Apply your usual foundation over your lip surface first (for added staying power), then use a neutral lip liner to trace over your actual lip line (this isn’t the time to transform your lip shape) and then apply a rich deep purple (such as Rouge Dior in Poison) over the surface of your lips with a lipbrush. For added shine finish off with Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Bulle. Keep your eyes natural and your skin flawless to really pull this look off. This look is great for all skin tones but be aware that it can make thin lips appear thinner. It is also important to keep your lips well moisturised before attempting this look as strong colours will highlight any dryness.

Glowing skin

This season is all about iridescence with radiant complexions at Valentino and Gucci stealing the show. If you usually opt for matte foundations, then why not mix it up a bit by trying a BB cream instead. If that feels like too much of a change, then mix a little illuminating BB cream into your usual foundation. Laura Mercier’s Translucent Powder is ideal for achieving a flawless, natural glow while softening imperfections. If you need a full coverage foundation then create a little added radiance by applying highlighter or strobe cream (MAC’s strobe cream is beautiful) to your cupid’s bow and cheekbones, as well as the centre of your chin, eyebrow arches and centre of the forehead.

Flushed cheeks

A natural blush that echoes the wind-whipped hue winter gives you, is highly coveted right now. One of the prettiest and most versatile shades is NARS Exhibit A. It suits all skin shades and only requires a light dusting of colour, which can be built as desired. Start on the apple of your cheeks and brush out lightly up towards the hairline for a youthful glow.

Copper eyeshadow

Copper shades suit all eye colours and skin tones and are the ideal autumnal look. Wear your copper tones with this season’s winged eyeliner and accompanied by smoky black tones for a more dramatic look, or keep it simple by applying copper to the whole lid. This season’s eyelashes are light and feathery, so you might like to apply fake eyelashes for an evening look or focus your mascara on the ends of your lashes for a fluttery daytime effect.

Smudged eyeliner

This is such a simple look to achieve and looks fantastic. Prime your eye area with concealer and apply a soft kohl liner in your chosen colour, taking it right around the edges of your eye. Next, take a cotton bud and gently smudge the eyeliner using small strokes and softening the colour outwards towards the outer corner of the eye. You can build this look up for an edgier feel or keep it soft and muted for a more subtle look. Either way, it’s a great way to draw attention to your eyes. Finish the look with a couple of coats of mascara and you’re good to go.

Brushed brows

Well-groomed eyebrows can make such a difference to your face but are so often overlooked. This season is all about the beautifully groomed brow, but it doesn’t need to be tricky. NARS Brow Gel is the perfect way to tame you brows while adding subtle colour. Brush the product through in the direction of hair growth and you’ll be left with the perfect finish. If you favour a fuller look you can always fill in any gaps with an eyebrow pencil or wax.

So why not try something different this season? With so many beautiful and wearable looks around right now, it is the perfect chance to mix things up a bit and embrace the autumn.
